A Time for Parting

There comes a time for parting
No matter how precious the years
No matter how beloved the memories

People change as does everything
I gaze at you … you are still you, yet you are not
You look at me, I am still me, yet I am not  
We are mere shadows of what we were
Change has made us into different people …

Why carry on when we see each other only through a veil of pain and anger?  
Why stay when the future appears to be bleak for us?

Let us simply remember each other as we once were
Let us leave the memories of the past as they are … sweet recollections of a time that was
Let us part, knowing that once we have been a joy and comfort to one another
Let us not tarnish what we had with the bitterness of today

Know that a part of me will always love you and forever hold you dear   
Perhaps in the future when the veil has finally fallen we shall cross paths again
But for now dear friend ... dear love …
